Raven Rocks Gallery presents:
“For the Love of Wood”
May 10 through June 7, 2018
Open House on Second Saturday, May12 from 2PM – 5PM
We love the look and feel of wood that has been shaped into delightful forms, made for specific purposes as well as for pure enjoyment. During May our gallery will be showcasing a unique variety of wooden art forms.
Jim Gage creates hand turned salt and/or pepper shakers from found wood of many beautiful varieties. Wonderful to the touch and a delight to the eye, each shaker is unique and functional, and comes with a carved cork stopper. Jim is also crafting a new line of vases that will be gracing our shelves this month. The ever-popular Roger White roams a private beach where he gathers driftwood for carving. He loves to create “Drifting Feathers” as he cuts and carves into his found pieces to reveal the treasures hidden within. Friday Harbor artist Don Balanos creates what he calls “The Tesla Effect” art pieces using lightweight board pieces. As a backdrop for the artistry of electric currents, he allows the electrons to dance across the wood’s surface burning dendrite-like shapes reminiscent of trees and roots.
Next, our highly sought after artists Tonah & Tim Potter take 4” X 4” cedar posts of various sizes, then cut, shape and paint them into whimsical Boho Poles. A whole new series landed in the gallery this Spring for your indoor or outdoor enjoyment. Covered on all sides with flora, fauna, people, songs and so much more, they are the perfect addition to gardens, patios or interior living spaces. And lastly, later in the month we’ll be seeing Windwalker’s new line of specialty wood and pipestone pendants. These are also designed from found wood, as well as gifts of odds and ends of diverse rare woods that Windwalker “saw” immediately as pendants. The pipestone pendants are hand quarried pieces from the traditional location in Minnesota. Enhanced with stones ranging from vintage Persian turquoise to treasures found on our beaches, each is a one of a kind creation.
