Sun Salutations #5: Sunshine & Carrots (sculpture) — Once up on a time, little Sunshine Bunny started out on a world journey in her magic carrot sailboat. She’s well prepared with a compass, map, and binoculars to help her navigate. Of course, she has her carrot valise (small suitcase) and her passport, and since she’s out on the water, she has her very special sun hat to protect her tiny pink nose. What adventures will you and Sunshine have?
Needle felting is the process of tangling sheep’s wool or other animal fibers with a special barbed needle. Wet felting uses water, soap, and agitation to do the same. Kathleen created this piece using both types of felting, then embellished the piece with simple beads and tiny embroidery stitches. The arms and legs are string-jointed, so they are posable.
Enjoy your Sunshine & Carrots sculpture for years to come. Wool is naturally anti-static so it doesn’t easily attract dust—it’s anti-microbial, too. Use a soft paintbrush or a hand-vac with low suction to remove dust as needed. Keep your artwork out of direct sunlight, and away from greasy and dusty environments.
