Raven Rocks Gallery at Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island, Washington, is the retail storefront for Raven Rocks Studio. The gallery features the artwork of artist/owners Mary Jo Oxrieder and DM Windwalker Taibi, as well as many emerging and renowned local artists. Created on the model of the neighborhood galleries of Greenwich Village, NY, in the late 1960’s, it presents handmade art and fine crafts in a wide selection of styles and media. A prime mission of the gallery is to offer visitors a range of affordable handmade creations, as well as fine artwork for the discerning collector. The casual, warm atmosphere is peaceful and inspiring.
Mary Jo and Windwalker met in 2002 and discovered immediately that they were soul and life partners. The following year, they moved from Seattle to Whidbey Island and continued to build their love relationship, as well as making new friends and creating art. They found that they loved working together and committed to pursuing their creative passions and so Raven Rocks Studio was born. Opening a gallery space became the next logical step, as their creative endeavors were prolific.
Now in its eleventh year at Greenbank Farm, the gallery offers Windwalker's hand woven tapestries featuring hand spun yarns, necklaces and the much-loved raven paintings and original watercolors. Mary Jo brings her internationally collected Fantasy House series, acrylic paintings, prints, wall hangings and plaques, batik fabric Lucky Fish, Treasure Bowls and Scrappers (as well as any other creation that comes to her.) Also exhibited are works by other local artists including paintings, stained glass mosaics, mixed-media pieces, couture clothing, woodworking, jewelry, ceramics, and more. Most are one-of-a-kind original works, but one can also find fine art prints and cards. Throughout the year, Raven Rocks also offers creative shows and daily artist-in-action demonstrations.
