Jon Smith
Sculptor

Picture
Art has been part of my life from childhood. I have found that the creative process balances the stresses of this world. I have continued to use art to reflect the wonder of the world around us. I have been sculpting since college in various mediums. When I begin a piece, I often do not know what the end result will be. The beauty of the natural world inspires much of the focus of the sculptures.

I find sculpting to be a meditative experience that allows me to immerse myself totally in my work, while creating something that others may enjoy.

Hope
Bronze, steel, and jade.
This sculpture reflects the ability of nature to overcome seemingly insurmountable
obstacles in a manmade world. Civilizations have come and gone but nature survives,
despite humanity’s efforts to destroy it.

Like Mother like Daughter

4” H x 7” W x 6” D

Brazilian soapstone
The fleeting connection of mother to child is reflected in this sculpture of an adult and
young bear. The two bears were carved from one stone and are held together by a narrow
stone connection, reflective of the need for eventual separation of the cub when she must
become an adult. The connection still exists but only for the moment. Life is full of
connections we have with others. Many last a lifetime, but many fade as time passes.
Price – 350.00

Anticipation

3.5” H x 6” W x 5.5” D.

Chlorite, and two forms of soapstone.
This sculpture is a nature study. The bird is an abstract form, waiting for the hatching of the
new life that will define the survival of the species.
Price – 325.00
Ichthys 6.5” H x 11” W x 4.5” D.
Brazilian soapstone
The beauty and variations of the stone of this sculpture are highlighted in the smooth lines
of the fish as it turns in the flow of the water; a reflection of the beauty seen in northwest
waters.
Price – 825.00

Shelter

6.5” H x 9” W x 6” D.

Alabaster
Polar bears have adapted to a harsh arctic environment. With changing climate patterns
their population has become vulnerable and are decreasing. This sculpture captures a
moment in time of a cub being sheltered from the cold in the embrace of its mother.
Without the protection offered by the mother, the cub would have little chance of survival.
