Story: At one point in its distant past, this little river wandered out of its mountain home and calmly rolled its way to the sea. Time passed, earth movements happened and a particularly dramatic one changed it forever – and eventually gave it its name. Powerful earth splits caused the river to disappear underground where it wore away at softer stone to eventually come surging back into daylight through two openings further down the hillside. More ages passed as the twin flows became twin falls diving ever deeper as they joined to wear away a beautiful, wild gorge.
At the turn of our 20thcentury, an enterprising builder decided to create a small lodge over Roaring Twin Falls, offering a unique and beautiful retreat for those who stumble upon it in their deepest need. And his descendants honored that intention through the years.
We had desperately needed to get away, to rest, to enjoy each other again. A rough year had left us exhausted and discouraged. Then I found it - a scribbled note on the back of an astonishing photo of the falls and lodge that was stuck between the pages of a fantasy novel from the library. Roaring Twin Falls Retreat was just the answer to our heartfelt wishes. And there was an opening for the only week that worked for all of us that summer. From start to finish, every moment of our vacation was magical and easy and light. It was only months after that we realized how much we were changed – in our speaking, our new choices and focuses, the laughter that rang often through our home. Do I believe in magic? Yes I do…
